Artist Statement

As an artist, I find beautiful inspiration in children's worlds—their boundless innocence, curiosity, small acts of kindness, and ability to find joy in small things. My goal is to craft designs that not only catch children's eyes but also ignite their imaginations, playing a part in providing a positive influence that stays with them as they grow.

I love narrative illustration because it turns an image into more than just a picture and gives it a story. I enjoy embedding small details that invite viewers to imagine what’s happening beyond the frame, letting them create their own interpretations. There’s something special about an illustration that sparks curiosity and encourages storytelling, whether it’s a scene from a picture book or a pattern.

I create my work digitally, but I always try to keep the soft, textured feel of traditional media, especially the cozy charm of colored pencils. I tend to use warm yellows, soft blues, pinks, and beiges to create a comforting, nostalgic feel, often bringing in elements from nature to add warmth and an inviting sense.

At its core, my art is a reflection of my love for all things cozy, bright, whimsical, wholesome, and heartwarming. More than anything, I just want my work to bring positivity to people. Whether it’s for kids or anyone who, like me, loves uplifting imagery, I hope my illustrations serve as a little reminder of the beauty in simple, heartfelt moments.

Artist Bio

My name is Chaelin Kim, and I am an illustrator and graphic designer based in Atlanta, GA. I was born in South Korea and moved to the U.S. about ten years ago, and I’ve been calling the Atlanta area home ever since. Growing up between cultures has shaped my perspective, and I hope my work can connect with people from all backgrounds.

I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Illustration and Graphic Design from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), where I focused on animated illustration and publication design. My biggest passions lie in children's book illustration and surface pattern design because they allow me to blend storytelling with visual aesthetics in a way that feels both meaningful and playful.

Spending time with children has had a huge impact on my work. Through years of volunteering, I’ve created educational visuals and decorations to help make their learning environments more engaging. Interacting with kids has given me a deep appreciation for the way they see the world, which continues to inspire the way I approach my art.
